Remember:
  • Be precise and concise! It is not a matter of length, but a matter of cutting out the fluff and flourish!
  • Use confident word choice! Be sure in your points! This relates to sticking to 3rd person point of view!
  • Leave out all praises and critiques--stick only to analysis of meaning and effect.
  • Think PERSONA!! The author/writer/poet CREATES with words, structures and devices, the narrator/speaker FEEL because of these words, structures and devices, and you (the reader) EXPERIENCE through these words, structures and devices!
  • Watch placement of ... Only needed when you eliminate the middle of a quote you include.
  • Utilize the quote to your advantage! Don't be afraid to alter tense of pronouns to fit the context of your sentence--as long as you use [brackets]!
